What It Is

A synthetic 15-amino-acid peptide based on a fragment of a naturally occurring protein first identified in human gastric juice. Widely discussed in online fitness/recovery communities, but its research and regulatory profile is very different from that discussion implies.

Proposed Mechanism

Proposed (not established) mechanisms include promoting angiogenesis (new blood vessel formation) and modulating growth factor pathways involved in tissue repair — based primarily on animal-model research.

Human Evidence

Very limited. There is not a substantial base of large, controlled human clinical trials. Most human-relevant discussion in public sources comes from anecdote, small/uncontrolled reports, or extrapolation from animal data — this should always be described accurately as a major evidence gap, not glossed over.

Animal / Preclinical Evidence

The majority of the existing research base is rodent/animal-model studies looking at tissue healing and gut protection.

Current FDA / Regulatory Status

Not FDA-approved for any human use. Notably, the FDA has taken regulatory action specifically flagging BPC-157 as raising safety concerns in the context of compounding (it has been proposed/placed on lists restricting its use in compounded drug products in recent FDA guidance). It is often sold labeled "for research purposes only" — that label does not make retail sale for human consumption lawful, and this business will never frame or sell it that way.

Known Safety Information

Because large controlled human trials are lacking, a comprehensive human safety profile does not exist. This is itself an important safety-relevant fact to communicate, rather than an invitation to speculate about safety in either direction.

Limitations of Evidence

Predominantly animal-model evidence; human data is sparse, often low-quality, and not sufficient to support efficacy or safety claims for human use.
